The Weekend Intensive Child Birth class was comprehensive and experiential without being overwhelming. I am most appreciative of Meghan’s extremely non-judgmental stance. She came off as science and fact-based, which I love in this age of alternative facts. In sharing a brief anecdote from her own birth, we learned that she went the natural/unmedicated route. However, she provided extensive information on epidurals and Cesarean Births (as she called it - what a lovely reframe from C-Section). She appeared wholly supportive of all ranges of birthing options. While I aim for natural, it was really wonderful to have an instructor present information objectively. I felt so comfortable. Meghan did not at all impose which type of birth, coping, or process was "best." Rather, she provided a comprehensive set of information, trusting us to use our best judgment for our own family and needs. I'm grateful she wasn't pushy re: natural, even though that's what I'd like. That would have made me suspicious. I highly recommend BDP child birth classes. We're going back for Infant CPR/Safety and Breastfeeding and Newborn Care (the trifecta!).
We attended the weekend intensive class with Meghan in Park Slope. It was fantastic and a MUST for first-time moms. I am 30 weeks and have done a little research so far, with an overabundance of advice from friends and family. Meghan's class was by far the most helpful thing we've done so far to get ready for birth. From science to best practices to helpful techniques, we feel truly prepared, even though we know the actual birth won't go exactly as planned (it never does). Also, this is coming from someone who was not particularly looking forward to 12 hours of class on a weekend in May. Highly, highly recommend taking Meghan's class regardless of what you think you already know! Worth every minute and every penny.
A reassuring and wonderful way to prepare for birth. I took the weekend intensive childbirth education class and it gave me everything I hoped for and more. My husband Sam and I both felt we learned so much and gained confidence in the unpredictable and exciting challenge of birth that lies ahead! It was reassuring to share perspectives with a group of people on the brink of parenthood and to be led by such a warm, knowledgeable instructor. Meghan clearly draws on a wealth of experience, answers questions thoughtfully and thoroughly, and creates a warm and trusting atmosphere. The time passed quickly - it didn't feel "intensive" in a daunting way all, but motivating and inspiring. The class also acts as a lovely opportunity to discover a new community of expecting parents and expert supporters. I recommend the whole experience.
My husband and I took three classes at Birth Day Presence: the weekend childbirth intensive, infant CPR, and breastfeeding and newborn care. All were super informative and taught in small group setting by engaging teachers who quickly established an atmosphere focused on digestible information. The hands-on practice was great, as was the non-judgmental evidence-based approach. While I'm not sure it's possible to fully prepare for all that the rollercoaster of birth entails for new parents, Birth Day Presence certainly helped give us more confidence. The classes also dispelled a number of fears and myths around the entire experience--I'm so grateful.
This is our first childbirth and we came in with a lot of unknowns and uncertainties. But (thankfully) we found that most of these were based on TV. Through this class, Meghan provided a kind of road-map that showed us where the big turns are, what we need to watch out for, and what to do if we get lost. It was surprising to learn there are things we can actually do to help navigate through potentially bumpy terrain. And it made us feel more confident and capable of handling what had seemed like a daunting undertaking. Although we still have work to do (like figuring out what car-seat and stroller), we feel much more prepared about the big day ahead.
I am so grateful to work with Birth Day Presence for my Doula training and lactation class. I could not have been in better hands than Debra and Jada. Their knowledge, expertise, care, thoughtfulness, and passion are palpable. It has directly translated to my wanting to share these resources within my community. I highly recommend! Beware it lighting a fire inside.
I can't believe we almost didn't come! This experience was amazing and I recommend to every pregnant woman and their partner. My husband and I left with so much information that we couldn't believe how clueless we were before, and we thought we were well read on child birth. Our instructor was amazing. We are in awe of her. She didn't push an agenda but gave us all the information so that we could make our own decision. She also informed us of our rights in the hospital so that we don't have to be pushed into doing anything we aren't comfortable with. If you are pregnant, you MUST attend this class.
I took the Birth Day Presence class with Jada and it was very informative. I'm a doula and needed this for certification but got so much more. Jada included another consultant, Amadoma Bediako, near the end of the class and it was awesome. I like that she did a true/false quiz which broke down everything even more. I also liked that she mentioned the stats when it comes to black women breastfeeding and that she talked about reasons for the disparity. Great class and a must if you're a doula or on your way towards one.
Feeling prepared! My husband and I attended the weekend intensive seminar with our instructor and it was fantastic. I was worried it would be difficult to cram in so much information in just two days, but the way our instructor broke up the class between video/Q and A/ group discussion and practice exercises made everything really easy to absorb and follow along without ever feeling tedious. I had done a lot of reading before class but my husband basically just knew what pop culture teaches us about birth, and after this class he is so excited to have a better understanding of what could take place, and we both feel MUCH more confident about our birth plan and what to expect. Great class- definitely take it!
Every class I have taken with Birth Day Presence exceeds my expectations and I end feeling so inspired and empowered. I highly recommend whether you are a doula, birth worker or parent!
My husband and I really appreciated our birth prep classes with Caitlin and the breastfeeding and infant care class we took with Meghan! Both were incredibly informative and helpful and it was an added bonus to meet lovely people in our neighbourhood who are expecting around the same time so we can start to build a community of support for when we go through all of these experiences together. The resources and exercises were all very helpful and we left feeling more knowledgeable and empowered. Thanks so much!
Take this class! You guys. Meghan is the best and I'm so so so happy that we took this weekend long intensive class with her. I had been reading articles for months but by husband wasn't as well-versed, and we both were SO glad that we learned all of the things that can happen during birth, all of our options, and how/when to advocate for what we wanted. We met some other great parents in the class as well and emerged feeling ready for baby. HIGHLY recommend.
