HIPAA & The Birthworker with IBCLC Lea Rivera
Doulas are by definition non-healthcare professionals. However, our work is also by definition about the health outcomes of our clients and confidentiality is a cornerstone of our work. This paired with the possibility of Medicaid coverage programs means that doulas should begin the work necessary to protect themselves and their clients under the privacy laws of the federal government. While there is no mandate it is expected by clients that the information be kept confidential by the professional they hire. This expectation should guide our behavior.
This workshop is designed for all birthworkers and will cover:
- an overview of the requirements of HIPAA
- understanding what is HIPAA compliance
- how you can start the process of protecting yourself and your clients
