Pushing Power
2nd Stage Labor & The Pelvic Floor
by Chantal Traub
Giving birth can be one of the most significant events of a person’s life, and it may also bring up a lot of anxiety and fear, especially around pushing and the possibility of tearing.
What I’ve noticed from going to hundreds of births, is that birthers are often under prepared for the pushing part of labor. I feel this is due in part to a lack of understanding of and limited preparation for optimal pushing. I’m passionate about helping prepare for a functional and positive birth experience by empowering body-mind for birth, especially for the pushing part of labor!
In my unique classes, you will learn:
- How to connect breath with the pelvic floor
- We will find the landmarks of the bony pelvis in ourselves and determine how the pelvis and baby interact during birth and how to make more space for the baby
- We will understand the essential role of the pelvic floor muscles and how they may help the baby rotate and get into a birth ready position
- We will discover what the “2nd stage” of labor is and what happens during pushing and explore strategies to help it be more easeful and to minimize damage
- We will review breath and positions for effective pushing and how best to prepare beforehand to optimize birth and postpartum recovery
- We will learn some exercises to release the pelvic floor muscles in order to let the baby out
Whether an epidural or un-medicated birth is planned; my workshop will leave you feeling confident and prepared.

I attended the Pushing Workshop led by Chantal a few months ago and I still talk about it! The workshop was absolutely phenomenal as it was not only informative and educational, but Chantal also made it a very welcoming and warm environment so you can get all of your questions answered. I think anyone that is pregnant should attend this workshop. I learned so much about the labor and delivery process, as well as exercises and positions to do during labor to help alleviate pain, as well as to help encourage the baby to move into the correct position. I went into the workshop not knowing what to expect and left with a ton of valuable information that has helped me prepare for what is to come. Since the workshop, I have continued to discuss some of the things mentioned in the workshop with both my husband and my OB to ensure we are all on the same page. Without this workshop, I definitely would not know some of the things I know now that will help me hopefully have a safer and more natural labor and delivery experience. Thank you Chantal!

When I heard about this workshop, I knew I wanted to attend. What I didn’t know was just how incredibly informative and empowering it would be. Chantal has years of experience as a doula and birth educator and she shares her wisdom with generosity. She really takes the time to explain both the physical act of what actually happens during the stages of labor and how your body accommodates and reacts to it. Further, Chantal provides many insightful tips on how to manage pain, how to best try and achieve your birthing preferences, and how to manage in situations where that is not possible. The fears of the birthing process I brought into that room, I am so happy to say were eliminated. I walked out feeling empowered and informed in ways I have not been by reading books. Thank you, Chantal!

Chantal was a wonderful doula, and I would highly recommend her to anyone. She was responsive throughout my pregnancy and always happy to chat about any questions or concerns that came up.I learned more about pregnancy and childbirth from Chantal than any book. She helped me prepare for childbirth by giving me exercises to help get the baby in the correct position and to help strengthen my core and open/relax my lower body.
Her Pushing workshops were an invaluable source of information. As a first time mom, I believe Chantal is the reason I had such a low stress labor and a very quick delivery! Before and during my labor Chantal was an excellent support for both me and my husband. As first time parents this was invaluable, as it helped alleviate any fears we had of this huge and exciting unknown. Chantal has a calm and quiet confidence and you can feel all of the love and respect she has for being a part of this journey. She also captured some of the most magical photos of my daughters first moments of life! Thanks to Chantal we had a wonderful birthing experience and would recommend her to anyone expecting a baby!
